Lilia Vengco, former principal of La Salle Greenhills, pioneering principal of De La Salle Canlubang, former member of the De La Salle Zobel board of directors, and PAASCU chair, is one of the speakers at AHEAD Professional Network’s (AHEADPRO) Leadership Strategies for School Managers (LESSM) on July 7 and 8 at La Salle Greenhills lecture hall. Vengco states.

“There are teachers who show potential of becoming principals or school administrators, but may either have inadequate knowledge or skills, or may lack reliable leadership qualities that would enable them to successfully lead their respective schools to excellence.” What these school administrators need, she said, is leadership training that would guide them in improving student performance, attaining excellent academic achievements, and boosting faculty and staff morale.

LESSM aims to enhance the leadership skills of school leaders and managers by making them aware of their leadership behaviors. It is hoped that they can further develop their personal strengths, skills and talents, and use these to achieve their goals. The participants will be taught what leadership strategies they could employ to strengthen confidence and competence. They will be guided to reflect, analyze and appraise their abilities and experiences and to learn from them.

Lastly, the participants will be directed to create a Personal Growth Plan that would encourage them to set goals that are specific, attainable and measurable and that actively envision concrete, short-term and desired outcomes.

The other speakers are: Cornelia Soto, Ph.D., former assistant headmaster of Ateneo de Manila Grade School, professor of Ateneo Graduate School and PAASCU chair; and Leticia Peñano-Ho, Ed.D., president of the Philippine Association of the Gifted and former dean of the College of Eduaction. There are limited slots, and aspiring participants will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.

LESSM will also be conducted in key cities such as Quezon City, Baguio, Cebu and Davao. LESSM is brought to you by Philippine Daily Inquirer and Radio Partners Inc.: 99.5 RT, 103.5 K-Lite, Magic 89.9, Jam 88.3and Wave 89.1.
